Going places with your pet can make for a much more interesting outing. The feeling of companionship generally makes a person feel more comfortable, whether it be out or in person. However, it can sometimes be difficult to find places that are as open to your dog being there as you are. For those of you living near Barksdale Air Force Base, Ultris Island Park, or the Shreveport area, you’re lucky! There are many places in this vicinity that welcome pets and humans alike.

  1. Spirit of the Red: If you’re looking for a fun activity, and looking to bring your dog, the Spirit of the Red is the activity for you. This is a 35 passenger boat tour that travels down the Red River and Cross Bayou. The tours take place Thursday through Sunday, and cost $15 for adults, but is free for dogs! What can you expect to see on this tour? Alligators, turtles, egrets, waterfowls and blue heron are all animals that you’ll want your camera ready to snap photos of!

  2. Marilyn’s Place: Marilyn’s Place is a restaurant located in Shreveport offering up a Cajun style menu. Dogs are allowed in the patio areas, so that you don’t have to worry about leaving your pooch in the car on a hot day. Enjoy red beans and rice, shrimp creole and fried crawfish. Marilyn’s also offers a variety of poboys, ranging from fried catfish to cochon de lait. They even offer Sunday brunch!

  3. Gardens of the American Rose Center: The Gardens of the American Rose Center is the largest garden in America dedicated to roses. At the garden is more than 118 acres of rose covered land, with over 60 individually designed rose gardens. Dogs are allowed on the grounds, however not in the buildings. The American Rose Center hosts many events and educational activities as well. If you’re looking for a scenic and pleasant smelling walking path for your dog, this is the place!

  4. Bass Pro Shop: Bass Pro Shop is the place to go for all of your outdoorsy needs. With thousands of different types of sporting goods, clothing and accessories, you could potentially spend hours just looking around. Dogs are welcome inside, so take your dog out for an afternoon in the “wilderness.”
