Shreveport, Louisiana is a great location for family and friend events. The gorgeous weather and friendly people make it a great place to stop on vacation or even when you are just passing through. 1. Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center

Louisiana’s Science Center provides a fun, educational environment for people of all ages to explore and actively engage in the world of mathematics, science, and technology. This 92,000 square foot Sci-Port serves to spark curiosity about the world while providing hands-on tools for using scientific discovery in everyday life. It also includes daily programs, an IMAX Dome Theatre, a laser Space Dome Planetarium, gift shop, and cafe. Located on the downtown Shreveport Riverfront, the Sci-Port is bound to capture your attention and send you into a world of discoveries.

2. Shreveport Water Works Museum

Known as the McNeill Street Pumping Station, this museum will take you back in time for a history lesson. Located in downtown Shreveport, the McNeill Street Pumping Station is Shreveport’s original waterworks. This Station has the rare honor of being both a National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. This is a must see in Shreveport for anyone who has an interest in mechanical engineering or science. It opened in 1887 and still remains in place after more than 100 years. The station proved itself to be an intact waterworks system.. The McNeill Street Pumping Station was not retired from service until 1980. Take a tour of the museum today!

3. Gardens of the American Rose Society

The American Rose Society exists to promote the culture and appreciation of the rose, through education and research. They offer many tours that exhibit beautiful roses and promote spending time with family and friends. They are open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and on Sunday they are open from 1 PM to 5 PM. Adult tickets are five dollars and children tickets are two dollars. If you want to go on a group cart tour during the week, you must make a reservation a week in advance. There are also grills available at the Rose Center for picnics which are great for family events! Visit the rose center to smell some beautiful flowers and spend some quality time with family or friends.
